Engagement
I'm thrilled to be the teaching artist in this continuing program with the Djerassi Resident Artists Program in Woodside California.
The Young Artist Fellowship at Djerassi began as the winning OpenIDEO concept of bay area artist Mel Day responding to the challenge “How might we inspire young people to cultivate their creative confidence?” With the generous support of the Djerassi Resident Artists Program, the pilot program took place in the fall of 2015 through to early 2016 with the Advanced Drawing and Painting students from Gunn High School in Palo Alto and Advanced Art and Advanced Photo students from Eastside College Preparatory School in East Palo Alto and Bay Area artist Melissa Wyman. The pilot program was awarded the Silicon Valley Creative Impact & Audience Engagement Grant by the Applied Materials Foundation and the The Lava Thomas and Peter Danzig Fellowship from Djerassi.
Thanks to the success of the first two programs and support from the San Mateo County Artis Commission, the fellowship has continued with students from Sequoia High School in Redwood City continuing to work with Melissa Wyman as the lead teaching artist.
